INTERVIEW WITH TERRORAISER MAGAZINE MAY 2005

1. Hail! How does recording of the album passes, how many done already ? Tell us about musical features of this program.
"Hail! Yeah, we`re now in the middle of the recording of our first full-length album, and my oppinion is that we`re handling with pure quality Black Metal! So far it sounds great, yet there`s still alot missing. The vocals are not recorded yet, and some acoustic guitar is not done. We also got the whole mixing and mastering part ahead of us, so it`s far from finished. Musically there won`t be the big change from what we`ve done earlier, we`re still talking about Unholy Black Metal. I belive there will be five tracks on this album, all of them strong and full of hatred. Even though we only got five tracks there will be fifty to sixty minutes of pure Black Metal, enough to make your ears bleed!"

2. I am interested by the technical side of new record. Your demos recorded extremely primitively (tape & 4 channels recorder), why? Was this done specially for rawness of sound? Gow it will be with a new album?
"Well, the only reason there where used a tape-recorder to make our demos, is that this was the only recording equipment available at our rehearsal room. We didn`t really plan to release it while we recorded it, it was only to please our own ears. Since we`re a two-mens band it`s very exciting to record all the instruments we`ve only heard in our mind at the rehearsals. But the demos turns out great, and we decided to release the first one, "Unholy Holocaustwinds". The new album is being recorded at Black Dimension Studio ( http://www.blackdimension.tk ), with Stein Sund and myself as engineers. Black Dimension Studio is a great place to be, and we`re able to create the sound and atmosphere perfect for our music. We`ll still have a lot of edge in our sound, but with a tight production."

3. Tell about your live gigs. You are only 2 men and this is few for a good concert and show. Are there session musicians?
"Yeah, we`ve got Imalas as a session bassist, and Coffin Crawler as a session guitarist. They are great musicians, which is important for our shows. We`ve only done one live job so far, but our second gig is coming up 17th of June at Karmøygeddon Metal Festival. It`s gonna be a hell of a show! The future looks bright, and we`re hoping to do some shows outside Norway soon."

4. Why the label not is found yet? You don't want to offer the old works to them, because a new album will be more serious for this purpose?
"That`s right. As soon as we`ve done a raw-mix of the album, we`ll start our search for a decent label to release it. I`m afraid that some labels will ignore us if we send them the previous demos, becourse of the sound quality. It might be easier for a label to release something when they know what they`ll get."

5. There are only 3 tracks on the "Unholy Holocaustwinds" demo. This a few, therefore, tell us about a lyrics in each of them, about ideology. Is there a place for satanism in your lyrics?
"Only 3 tracks, but still allmost 25 minutes with unholiness.. The first track, "Funeral Moonlight", brings the ancient devil worshipping back to life in our time, the rise of a new age. I think of Black Metal as a tool that may be used in the same way the ceremony's and Sabbaths where used in the medieval times. The second track, "Symbols Of Winter", is about the last days in a mans life, while freezing to death. He`s longing for the eternity as he walks the last path, begging the North wind to guide him. The last track, "Skogens Kall", is the only one written in Norwegian on "Unholy Holocaustwinds". Together with the atmosphere on this track the lyric is very effective. I want people to make a picture for their own while listening to this track. A few days ago a man told me that he pictured a man, taking his last trip into the woods a cold winter day, for to hang himself. This might be close to the truth."

6. There are a spirit of beginning of 90th winnows from your music, by such bands as Enslaved, Emperor, Mayhem, Darkthrone, Gehenna... that make visible your priorities at once. What will you say about today's underground? What new bands impressed you? are there well known names among them?
"Most of the greatest albums where released in the early 90's. I admire the feelings and atmospheres that where put into alot of releases from that time.
There`s still many great band around, and some impressive newcomers. Norwegian bands like Orcustus, Vesen, Koldbrann, Ljå, Nebular Mystic, Sarkom,
Pantheon I, Eld, Sorgsvart and Skaur is worth checking out. There`s alot happening in the Black Metal scene these days, not everything is interesting, though."

7. It is known that Norway is the country with a very strong social policy. Government allegedly supports musicians in every way, even with rehearsal
places and instruments. Is this true?

"I don`t know much about these things, but I know there are some rehearsal places near by where I live, runned that way. But I find it better to rent your own place, if available. This to have full control who`s there when your not, and you don`t have to put away your things after each and every rehearsal. It doesn`t allways have to be that simple to find a rehearsal place, though. We where looking for a year before we found a place to THRONE OF KATARSIS."

8. Please, tell, what you and Vardalv are interested in, what things influence you in everyday and musical life?
"Musically our inspirations are basically Norwegian Black Metal from the early- and mid 90's. Music is a huge part of our lifes - listening, playing, going to concerts and festivals. Black Metal becomes a lifestyle."

9. Which do you see the future of Throne Of Katarsis? Will the lineup be extended, more concerts and active sale of album also?
"We hope to get our full-length out soon, it might take a while though, with the mixing, mastering, pressing and all that. It would be great to do alot of gigs this year too, and maybe do some shows outside Norway. We`ll also start working on new material in a while. Anyway: the lineup will not be changed or extended, THRONE OF KATARSIS` lineup is complete. Me and Vardalv work perfectly together, and I see no point in bringing more musicians to the band, when we`re able to do the whole thing ourselves."

10. A few words to our fans from the forests of Norway
