INTERVIEW WITH
BLACKTERRORMETAL JANUARY 2005
1) Which are the reasons that have pushed you to create Throne of
Katarsis?
Well, it all started when me (Grimnisse) and Vardalv met in
September in 2002 at a party. At the time I was looking for a
drummer, as I wanted to form a band playing nothing but grim black
metal, the old school way. Me and Vardalv had the same music
interests, and when I heard that he was a drummer, we gave it a
shot. We both wanted to create black metal the way it was done in
the early 90's. Shortly after THRONE OF KATARSIS was formed.
2) Would you define your music?
Long and varied tracks of grim and primitive Black Metal, deepened
by marked acoustic guitar lines, depressive screams and intense
necro atmosphere. I do the vocals and handle all the instruments
myself, except from the drums, this to have full control with the
music. Vardalv's drumming is very important, he knows how to
complete the old school feelings. He's also important when it comes
to the song-writing, trying out different beats, and then seeing
which creates the right atmosphere. So we have no plans bringing
more musicians into THRONE OF KATARSIS. This will be a two mens
band.
3) Express your ideology.
Unholy Black Metal is our only ideology, our life style. The
darkness that surrounds us is in deed important for us when we make
our music. We've got to have this certain mood to create true
feelings in our compositions.
4) Which are your inspirations?
Musically our inspirations are basically Norwegian black metal from
the early- and mid 90's.
5) Tell us about “Unholy Holocaustwinds”?
This was the first demo we recorded, and we had no big plans
distributing it. But the feedback was overwhelming so we decided to
send it to reviewers in web- and magazines. We still get alot of
orders from around the world. The two first tracks "Funeral
Moonlight" and "Symbols of Winter" was recorded the 15th and 16th of
march 2004 in the North Sea on a 4-track cassette player. The
recordings where done in eight hours, due to lack of time. The last
track "Skogens Kall" ("the Call of the Forest") was recorded the
26th of February 2004, partly in the Liarlund Forest and partly in
Sound of the Dead Recordings.
6) When will you release a full length?
The recordings will start early in 2005 in Black Dimension Studio.
We don`t have a label yet, our search will start soon, so I don't
know when the album will be released. We want to release it on a
vinyl 12", and maybe on CD and MC, we'll see..
7) You are, from always, one of the new-comers of the Norwegian
BM scene. Has it grown during the years? Do exist, in your opinion,
some intersting youth band ?
There have always been many interesting bands in the Norwegian Black
Metal scene. Hell, the best black metal bands ARE from Norway! A lot
of newcomers are extremely bad though, music without soul. But
there`s still many impressive releases nowadays such as Koldbrann,
Furze (not a new-comer though), 1349, Nebular Mystic, Pantheon I,
Sarkom and Dwelling Souls. The list is quite big, but I don`t bother
filling this interview with such.
8) Any plans for live gigs?
We recently played our first gig ever, at Wolf`s Lair`s 5th
anniversary. It went quite well, and we got alot of good feedback
afterwards. We`ve got a session guitarist and a session bassist to
complete our line-up for these live-jobs, it couldn`d be done
without them. These are great musicians, and they`re into this type
of music as well. We`re planning on doing alot of gigs the next
year, to spread our unholy black metal. It feels great to front this
band.
9) Future Projects.
Well, we`re hoping to record our full-length as soon as possible,
and to release it on a serious label. Furthermore we'll continue
writing new material. We`ve also recorded a second demo,
"Blodslakt"("Bloodslaughter"), which is in the same cold and necro
vein as "Unholy Holocaustwinds". This demo will not be released yet,
but you can download samples at www.throneofkatarsis.com.
10) Would you leave a message to the blackterrormetal.com

the word!
